Lingering Feelings and Wishes — Lynette Yang

Greetings to readers and staff alike. My name is Lynette, and I am the Editor-in-Chief of Horizon Publications from 2025 to 2026. My journey with Horizon began in the winter of 2024, right when the post-secondary application season was underway. Rather than preparing my volunteer hours and polishing my extracurriculars, I scrambled to prepare a portfolio of my best written pieces and graphic designs.

The months after were filled with laughter and cherishable moments: joining Anna’s (our CCO!) cohort, being promoted to cohort lead and leading my own group of creative youth in weekly games, being promoted to Editor-in-Chief and working alongside the hardest-working (and brain-rotted, you’ll see what I mean) creative department administration team I could ask for, attending department meetings, and many more. Each moment was filled with laughter, and seeing everyone enjoy themselves made my heart feel so full.

To the creative department, every one of you is extraordinarily talented in your craft, and I am so proud of how far you’ve come and how much more you can achieve. Though I may not be able to share the journey much longer, I am glad I was able to accompany you on this brief stretch and wish you the best of luck in your future academic and creative aspirations. May we meet again in the creative department Discord server and play another round of Putt Party!

Signing Off For Tomorrow — Hilary Yum

Hi everyone! I’m Hilary, the Chief Human Resources Officer of Horizon Publications from 2024 to 2026. I joined Horizon when it first started (fun fact: I was a part of their first hiring!) and was immediately welcomed by the original team. Being in HR was truly a journey, where we went from a two-man department to only me, and after lots of hiring and work, we are now one of the biggest departments in Horizon!

I firmly believe that my decision to join Horizon is one of the best I’ve made. Not only have I been able to be involved in such a meaningful organisation, but I have also met the most wonderful and talented group of people here! I will always be indebted to this place for all the amazing memories it has given me. As for HR, I’m excited to continue seeing this department flourish. While I’m no longer a panel member, this organisation will always hold a special place in my heart and high school life. All the best to everyone, in the Horizon or not!

Memoir of Magical Memories — Yegor Kulichenko

Ts is actually highkey so tuff ongfr osncw (on some nonchalant work) – after hours (4 minutes) of discussion (brief Discord DM), I am proud to say the EIC has allowed me to add this to my part! I’m also proud to have served as Vice Editor for Horizon Publications from 2025 to 2026. Starting from humble beginnings as a writer, writing about rabbits and war, I somehow tripped and stumbled into the boots of the Vice Editor, and I couldn’t be happier to say that this was the best trip and stumble that I’ve taken.

From the increasingly longer calls with homeslices Lynette, Anna, and Renee, talking about boxing legends and other individuals, to leading my very own cohort with some of the best editors imaginable, to finally being able to call myself “the guy who became the boss of his former boss (haha Jasper),” working with this group of ingenious individuals was truly incredible.

As I write this, coming out of my writer’s retirement one last time, I give a super big thank you to the creative department and their hard work to make Horizon what it is. I am proud to bestow the title of “awesome sauce” to each and every one of you. As much as this is a goodbye, this isn’t a farewell. If you find me roaming around wherever and whenever, with a camera hopefully (HOPEFULLY) filming the next MUN closing video, don’t be afraid to say hi! Though for now, I’ll see you folk elsewhere.

Something Clever — Renee Powell

I assume that the chances of someone reading this far down are slim, but if you have made it to my little cozy corner of the page, welcome! I am/was the head photographer for Horizon this year, and it has been a honor to work with many talented photographers throughout the years I have been here. I started off as a photographer and worked my way up to head of photography and I have definitely made some life long connections. Horizon is a great inclusive community who meets you where you are at, whether that is as a hobby or professional level. I think my advice to all that stumble across my small mark on this giant publication is that no matter what is happening at the time in your life, it will pass; I think that is very important to remember, and because you only have one life, remember to make it yours and only yours. So keep your head held high, no matter what life throws at you. It has been a great honor working alongside the creative staff, and I hope to continue taking photos even if it’s not for Horizon. Good luck to you, readers! 😉 I will shamelessly plug my Instagram too: @runk1estiltskin
