How to be a Samaritan

By: Anna Li

On March 13th, there is a very important yet overlooked holiday…

It’s… Good Samaritan Day!

In honour of this event, here’s a list of 10 nice things that you can do to be a better person:

(because it’s really not that hard to be a good person)

  1. Give out a compliment

Has anyone ever said anything to you that has stuck with you even after years? Well, if you say just one nice thing to a person, you could be that voice. Remember, a couple words can go a long way.

  1. Hold the door for someone

Life is already tiring enough, so be kind to someone behind you.

  1. Send a gift to someone

What’s the point of money if you don’t spend it on what really matters?

  1. Smile at a stranger

Smiles are contagious.

  1. Express your gratitude to someone

It takes a village to raise a child. So, it is a given that somewhere this year, there has been someone who has helped you take a big leap. Take some time to show your appreciation for them, to make sure they know how inspiring they are to others.

  1. Celebrate an acquaintance for their accomplishment

Congratulations!

  1. Reach out to an old friend

Long time no see! Want to meet up soon?

  1. Apologise to a person you’ve wronged

We’ve all been there, done that, and made plenty of mistakes. All of us are human, so take the time to say sorry, and own up to your actions.

  1. Hug your mom

She deserves it.

  1. Donate to charity

Whether you’re passionate about wildfires, climate change, fighting discrimination, or saving puppies, there’s bound to be an organization dedicated to your cause. Choose wisely.
